Malmesbury Abbey Music Society (MAMS) would like to announce their wonderfully varied programme for 2014.
The season will get off to an exciting start on Saturday, February 8th with Classic Rhythm, playing an eclectic mix of melodic music. This fine and unique ensemble of flute, piano and percussion will play Glinka’s Russian and Ludmilla Overture, Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, Beethoven’s Adagio from the Pathetique Sonata, Adrain Sutcliffe’s The Emerald Isle and Jazz Suite, Ravel’s Bolero, the traditional Ghanaian melody Yaa Yaa Kole, V. Monti’s Czaraas and Bernstein’s West Side Story.
On March 8t, Sergei Podobedov, the world class Russian-born pianist, will take our breathe away a programme of Chopin, Schubert, Liszt and Prokofiev.
Next up, on May 3rd will be Café Mozart, who specialise in performing chamber music of the 18th century on period instruments. They will delight us with a selection of songs and instrumental music.
Then on June 7th we are delighted to welcome the celebrated Hugarian-born guitar duo, The Katona Twins, to Malmesbury Abbey for the very first time. They will thrill us with their magnificent playing and their programme will include music by Boccerini, JS Bach, Mangore, Bizet, Handel, Rodrigo and by themselves too. This is a marvellous opportunity for all our budding local guitarists to come and be inspired by a guitar duo of the very highest calibre!
